The History of Umuochonma Village
The history of Umuochonma Village traces back to Late Mr. Ogbuo, who married a woman named Mrs. Nwiroka. It was Mrs. Nwiroka who gave birth to Ochonma, after whom our village was named after. Mr. Ochonma fathered four sons: Mr. Okafor, Mr. Ijikara, Mr. Omenuko, and Mr. Akaoso—regarded as the four wise men of our lineage.
Historically, our village emerged as a distinct entity due to Late Mr. Ogbuo's polygamous family structure. While Mrs. Nwiroka bore Ochonma, Mr. Ogbuo had another wife who gave birth to Uzigwe. As a result, Ochonma and Uzigwe were half-brothers, sharing the same father but different mothers. This distinction led to the separation from Umuzigwe Village, thereby establishing Umuochonma Village.
The Lineage of Ochonma’s Four Sons
1. The Lineage of Okafor
Mr. Okafor married three wives:
His first wife, Nwansorom, gave birth to Ikedinobi.
His second wife was the mother of Obiegonu.
His third wife bore no children before Okafor’s passing. However, after his death, she became pregnant and gave birth to Okafor O. Okafor (popularly known as Olololo), who currently resides in Ogwashi-Uku, Delta State, Nigeria.
Ikedinobi, son of Okafor, married two wives. Both wives gave birth to two sons each.
2. The Lineage of Ijikara
Mr. Ijikara had only one son, Mr. George. George, in turn, fathered Mr. Young and Chief Godwin, also known as Akaoso, who is the current village chief of Umuochonma Village as of 2025.
3. The Lineage of Omenuko
Mr. Omenuko had two wives:
His first wife gave birth to Nnagboroakwa, Silas, Okezie (father of Late Kingsley), and Jude Omenuko.
His second wife, Nwafor, gave birth to only one son, Mr. Alexandra the Great Omenuko.
Nnagboroakwa had four sons: Chief Bernard Omenuko, Mr. Jonas Omenuko, Mr. Kenneth Omenuko, and Mr. Arthur Chima Omenuko. He also had two daughters: Mrs. Medeline Nwankwo Eze (née Omenuko) and Mrs. Onuabuchi Rosemary Okwara (née Omenuko), the only surviving daughter as of April 2025.
Silas married two wives, each bearing two sons. His first son from the first wife is Mr. Ebere Omenuko, while his first son from the second wife is Mr. Sunday Omenuko, who is the Cabinet Chief of Umuochonma village Association.
Mr. Alexandra the Great Omenuko’s first son is Mr. Elochukwu Omenuko.
4. The Lineage of Akaoso
Mr. Akaoso had only one son, Damian. However, some members of his lineage have associated with the wrong village group instead of belonging to Umuochonma Village. They are often likened to the prodigal son in the Bible, with hopes that they will eventually return to their rightful place.
Additional Notes on the Lineage
Okorochukwu, another member of the Ochonma lineage, only had female children before his passing, which is why he is not frequently mentioned in this history.
Azunna was also part of Okorochukwu’s household.
Conclusion
It is important to note that some of our brothers, who rightfully belong to the Umuochonma Village association, have mistakenly aligned themselves elsewhere. However, it is believed that as they come to recognize their true heritage, they will return to their roots.
The first son of Chief Bernard Okereke Omenuko (Igweobi the Ist) is Prince Ndubuisi Omenuko (IGWEOBI THE 2ND) who compiled this history based on available information and his capacity to document our village’s ancestral roots.
